Follow a job on the day

On the day of your appointment the booking in your portal changes as the technician works, and — depending on what the business has switched on — your phone hears about it too. This article walks through the day in order, so you know what each status and each message means.

The statuses, in order

A booking’s status is the label beside its date, both on the card in My Bookings and at the top of its own page:

  1. Scheduled — you booked it, or the business booked it for you, and it is on the calendar.
  2. Confirmed — the business has looked it over and is expecting to come. Many businesses confirm shortly after you book; some leave a booking at Scheduled until nearer the day. Both mean the appointment is on.
  3. In Progress — the technician has arrived and started the work. The booking moves from the Upcoming tab to In Progress.
  4. Completed — the work is done. The booking moves to Past, and this is when photos, the review prompt and the “your car is ready” message appear.

Canceled can happen at any point before the work starts. The booking moves to Past and, when the business gives one, shows a Cancellation Reason on its page.

Only the technician or the business changes a status; nothing in the portal asks you to confirm, start or close a booking yourself.

Before the day: confirmation and reminders

When a booking is made, you get a confirmation email with the date, time and place. If you ticked the box for text messages when booking and the business sends them, the same confirmation arrives as a text.

Reminders come the same two ways — by email, and by text if you opted in — typically the day before and again about an hour before the appointment. The business chooses those timings, so yours may differ. If a booking is moved, the reminders move with it; if it is canceled, they stop.

During the day: “on the way”

Some businesses text you when the technician sets off: your technician is on the way, naming the service. It is only ever a text — there is no email version, because it is meant for the few minutes before the doorbell — and only businesses that have turned it on send it. Not receiving one does not mean the technician is not coming.

After the work: “your car is ready”

When the technician marks the job Completed, two things can reach you:

  • A text saying your car is ready, usually with a link that opens the finished job — its photos and a place to rate the work — without signing in. See The link in your text or email.
  • An email with the before-and-after photos, when the technician took some, and a link to sign in and see the booking.

The booking itself now shows the photos and the notes on its page. See Photos and notes from your detailer.

Good to know

  • Text messages go to the mobile number the business has on file for you. For a booking you made in the portal, they are sent only if you ticked the box for them. Reply STOP to any text to stop every text sent through Wax Stak to your number — from this business and any other that uses it; email keeps working. Reply START to get them back.
  • If the technician could not do the work on the day, the booking stays where it was with a note at the top of its page — see When a visit couldn’t be completed.
  • The status you see is the one the technician set. If it looks wrong — a job that finished hours ago still reads In Progress, say — contact the business; they can correct it.
