Plan routes for a day
By the end of this article you will know where a technician’s daily route comes from, what you can do to shape it, and how to read it on the Routes page.
A route is the day’s jobs, in order
You do not build a route by hand. For each technician, each day, the route is the jobs on their calendar that day — every Scheduled or Confirmed job they are assigned to — as a sequence of stops at the customers’ addresses. Planning a route is therefore the work you already do: book the jobs, set their Appointment times, and put the right person on each one.
Each evening the next day’s routes are prepared automatically: the addresses are located on the map, the route is built per technician, and — on the Pro and Business plans — the stops are reordered by the optimizer to cut driving while respecting the appointment times. On the Starter plan the stops stay in appointment order.
Read the route
Work → Routes opens Technician Routes:
- Pick the person in the Technician list and the day with the date field or the Previous day / Next day arrows. The page opens on the first technician and today.
- The map shows the stops as numbered markers joined in driving order; the panel beside it lists them in the same order, with the planned arrival time for each. Click a stop in either place to highlight it in the other.
- Route Summary at the top of the list gives the count of stops, the distance in miles and the driving time.
Each stop carries a status as the day unfolds: Pending, En route, Arrived, In progress, Completed or Skipped. These come from what the technician does on the mobile app.
No route for this technician on the selected day. means they have no jobs that day. If the map area says Map unavailable — map access is not configured., the list still works; ask your administrator about the map.
Shape tomorrow’s route
- Put the day’s jobs on the calendar before the evening; a job booked for today after the evening run is added to the route in appointment order and is not re-optimized.
- Keep customer addresses accurate — a stop whose address cannot be located is left off the route until it is fixed.
- Assign each job to the person who will drive it; an unassigned job is on nobody’s route.
- The technician can reorder their own day on the mobile app. Their order stands; the evening run never rewrites a route that already exists.
Good to know
- The Tech Progress page shows every technician’s route for today side by side, and View Route on a card opens that person’s route here.
- Drive times and distances also feed the Mileage & Fuel report under Reports.
- The optimizer respects appointment times: if the times you booked cannot all be met in one day’s driving, the route keeps appointment order and the technician will be late somewhere — the progress page will show it.
