Create a service and price it by vehicle type

By the end of this article you will have a service in your catalog that charges a sedan one price and a truck another, takes the right amount of time on the calendar, and pays your technician what you decided.

Your account starts with a standard detailing catalog — Express Wash, Full Interior Detail, Ceramic Coating and the rest — so you have something to edit rather than a blank page. The dashboard reminds you to review it until you change any service.

Add the service

  1. Open CatalogServices and click Add Service.
  2. Under Basic Information, type the Service Name. Click Show Spanish to name it in Spanish too, or Auto-translate for a draft. Pick a Category, add a SKU if you use codes, a Description your customers will read on the booking page, and any Tags.
  3. Under Pricing, enter the Base Price — what the service costs when nothing more specific applies. Sort Order decides where it sits in the list on the web and on your online booking page; lower numbers come first. Leave Taxable on unless the service is exempt — every new job, quote and invoice line starts from this setting and can still be changed per line.
  4. Under Technicians, set Technicians Needed — how many people the service takes at once; a job needs the most of any of its services. Technician Payout is the flat amount paid to the technician for doing it, which payroll reads. Delivery cost is what the service costs you in consumables, not labor, and feeds the job’s margin. Only these technicians restricts who may be assigned; leave it at Anyone unless the service needs a particular skill.
  5. Click Create Service.

Price it by vehicle type

Every vehicle on a customer’s record has a Vehicle Type — Sedan, SUV, Truck, Van, Motorcycle or Other. A service can carry its own price and duration for each.

  1. Open the service and scroll to Vehicle-Specific Pricing (Optional).
  2. Click Add Vehicle Type. A row appears with a Vehicle Type, a Price and a Duration in minutes.
  3. Set each and repeat for the other types you price differently. Each type can appear once; the button greys out when all six are in.
  4. Click Update Service.

From then on:

  • Online booking charges the price for the customer’s vehicle type and blocks that type’s duration on the calendar. A type you have not priced pays the Base Price and is booked for 60 minutes.
  • On the phone, the technician sees the price for the vehicle they are working on.
  • On the web, when you add the service to a job or a quote and pick the vehicle on that line, the line’s price and duration follow the vehicle’s type. You can still change either by hand.

Requirements

Requirements (Gear & Products) is where you list what the service uses — a bottle of sealant per vehicle, a polisher per job. Click Add Requirement, pick from your inventory and gear with Select from Products, or type a custom line with its Quantity, Unit, Quantity Per (Per Job or Per Vehicle) and Cost. Requirements are kept with the service for your own planning; they do not change its price, its Delivery cost or the invoice.

Good to know

  • Duration lives on the vehicle rows. A service with no vehicle pricing has no duration of its own; add at least one row if the calendar should block time for it.
  • Search on the Services page matches the name, description, category and SKU. Switch between the card grid and the table with the two view buttons, and use Show inactive to see retired services.
  • Who can do this: owners, admins and managers edit services; technicians, accounting and viewers see them read-only.
